TRC Warns of Common Oversights Leading to Telegram Account Hijacking
The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia and the MPTC have issued an official warning outlining critical oversights that expose Telegram accounts to hijacking risks.

The Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia (TRC), together with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, has issued an official advisory warning the public about common oversights that leave Telegram accounts vulnerable to hijacking.
Key Oversights Identified
According to the regulatory authorities, several critical lapses make users susceptible to losing control of their Telegram accounts:
- Clicking Deceptive Links: Interacting with fraudulent links designed to deceive users and compromise their accounts.
- Downloading Disguised Executable Files: Downloading and opening malicious files disguised as ordinary or harmless documents.
- Failing to Enable Two-Step Verification: Not activating an additional security layer beyond the standard login code.
- Neglecting Active Sessions: Failing to routinely monitor and review the list of active devices linked to the Telegram account.
Why This Matters
Recognizing and addressing these oversights is critical for personal and communication security. Because Telegram is widely utilized for daily messaging and official work, an account compromise can expose private conversations, data, and allow unauthorized parties to misuse the user's identity.
Recommended Actions for Users
To mitigate these risks, the Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia strongly urges all users to exercise extreme caution before opening unfamiliar links. Furthermore, users are advised to activate Two-Step Verification immediately and regularly review their Active Sessions to disconnect any unrecognized or suspicious devices.
